The Boston Landmarks Orchestra is proud to present music education programs and family concerts throughout Boston’s diverse neighborhoods! Through these concerts and programs, we aim to engage the hearts and minds of young people and adults within our community.
We are committed to providing musical experiences to under-served youth. Therefore, among the many programs we provide are interactive activities that expose young people to live music. These experiences help them learn valuable listening, performance, and comprehension skills. They also help young people discover their love of music and foster a life long appreciation of the arts.
Musical Playgrounds and Neighborhood Concerts
Through our Education and Outreach Program, children have been able to participate in our free and exciting Musical Playgrounds! Our Musical Playgrounds give children (and adults) the opportunity to try out a variety of orchestral instruments led by a team of trained Education and Outreach staff and musicians. For example, some of our instruments on hand include trombones, violins, cellos, clarinets, violas, flutes, trumpets, and more! Many of these Playgrounds take place at our partner youth centers, but you can always experience our biggest Musical Playground during our annual Season Tune-Up Party each summer. As a result, we provide about 600 children (and children at heart!) in the Greater Boston area this educational opportunity each year.
Including our interactive Musical Playgrounds, Landmarks presents community concerts in parks and other outdoor locations around the neighborhoods of Boston each summer. Locations for our neighborhood concerts have included the Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park, Mattapan Teen Center, Pinebank Promontory in Jamaica Plain, and Boston Children’s Museum. Where will we go to next?
Youth Partners in Concert
At Boston Landmarks Orchestra’s beloved summer concert series over the years, our youth partners have had many exciting experiences! For instance, they have collaborated with professional composers in the creation and performance of new works. Plus, they have explored the roots of music with their own cultures, and also performed alongside some of Boston’s finest professional musicians onstage at the Hatch Shell. Recent young people who have shared the stage with us include ZUMIX, Boston Ballet II, Camp Harbor View, and more!
